Will we save the planet? Or are we going to leave it?

The atmosphere and environment of the Earth are becoming more and more hostile with every passing day. Human activity is the basic source of the heat that is being fed to our planet. This is a self-destructing scenario where we are killing our future generations for the sake of our own comfort. The incredibly high rate of population growth has forced us to take extreme steps that are simply fatal in the long run. The changing behavior of Earth is the reason why scientists are looking for alternate places, where human survival is possible. A lot of money is being thrown in this research as the future of an entire species is dependent on it. All this gives birth to a resounding question. Are we meant to save the planet or leave it?

The first theory has gained quite a lot of popularity in recent years according to which we must look for habitable places in our universe other than the Earth. A lot of scientists have voted in favor of it as they feel that it’s only a matter of time before Earth becomes unsuitable for humans. As a result, a lot of planets and other heavenly bodies are being searched for positive signs. Researchers hardly had any luck in this regard but their struggle continues to go on. A lot of prestigious people have supported this idea and have warned the mankind that it is a necessity to prevent the extinction of the human race.

One of those people is Stephen Hawking, a famous scientist of Theoretical Physics, who claimed that the future of the human race is possible only in space. He said,

I believe that the long-term future of the human race must be in space. It will be difficult enough to avoid disaster on planet Earth in the next hundred years, let alone the next thousand, or million. The human race shouldn’t have all its eggs in one basket, or on one planet. Let’s hope we can avoid dropping the basket until we have spread the load.”

Although he was an optimistic individual, he repeatedly mentioned that the chances of human survival on Earth are almost non-existent.

The most obvious reason for the destruction of Earth is that the sun would boil all the oceans and this would mean the end of our species unless we have some other home in the universe. Another factor that might destroy all forms of life on our planet is the collision of Asteroids. According to a popular theory, dinosaurs were wiped from the face of this planet following an asteroid strike. This clearly shows that the relationship between them and the Earth is as old as we can imagine. That’s the reason why Elon Musk is determined to populate Mars with humans as soon as possible. He wants to preserve humanity beyond the scope of our planet. He plans to send 1 million people belonging to different fields of life to the red planet to ensure that a balanced amalgam is available.

On the other hand, there are people who feel that humans are the real threat to this world and we can certainly save it or at least prolong its lifespan, by molding our lives in an environment-friendly way. The steps that are taken to tackle the ever-increasing population had a drastic impact on our planet. Excessive Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is one of the major threats that we pose to ourselves. This has led to ‘Global Warming’ and the entire dynamics of the Earth are changing as a result of it. The melting of glaciers and disturbance in the climatic pattern are the examples that signify this fact.

People who believe that we must save Earth rather than escaping from here suggests a handful of rules that can be followed to enhance our chances of survival. In their opinion, the journey to space has so many complications that the chances of success are pretty bleak. They try to spread the importance of Earth to humans so that we could realize the significance of our home. Earth provides us with all the comforts of life. From our homes to the food we eat, everything would simply blow away if not for our planet.
