Researchers have made the thinnest nanowire
A thread of single atom thickness makes it the most unidirectional thread ever created
By creating a stable structure of the Tellurium (Te) chemical element, the technique that produced this material can lead to further advances in material science and electronics.
The study was made by Cambridge University researchers who produced the Tellurium chain, which was introduced into a nano carbon tube, without which tellurium follows its natural behavior, leading to the decay of the nano thread.
Remembering the fact that Tellurium is a metalloid, researchers can exploit the element ambivalence.
For example, when the thread is tightly closed in the nano tube, it begins to behave like a metal rather than a semiconductor.
