We can feed the entire Planet with Renewable Energy

We can feed the entire Planet with Renewable Energy

Solar will become the biggest energy source by 2031, says Elon Musk.

Renewable energy is the one that is extracted from renewable resources. These are replenished naturally on a human timescale. Sunlight, wind and geothermal heat are some common examples. We are heavily reliant on non-renewable sources of energy like coal, natural gas and oil. Contrary to renewable resources, the quantity of these fossil fuels is limited and they can either completely finish from the face of Earth or they will become too expensive to get your hands on. We need to realize quick and fast and look for alternate ways of energy that are based on renewable sources. There are numerous ways in which such resources can be exploited and some of them are discussed below.

Sunlight

It is the source of nearly all the renewable resources that are available around us. Firstly, it can be used directly for heating purpose. It can be used for generating electricity for our homes, offices and buildings. The concept of solar panels being used to store solar energy for electricity generation is becoming more and more popular these days.

Wind

One of the most readily available resource is wind whose energy can be captured by wind turbines. The concept of building power stations alongside the oceans is expanding readily as you get good wind speed throughout the year in those parts of the world.

Rain

Water is one of the most important part of human life and it is needed in generating electricity as well. The water is stored in different types of water bodies like lakes, rivers, dams and streams that is then used for this purpose.

Biomass

Biomass which is also known as Biogas is another form of renewable resource that is used to produce energy more commonly in rural areas. The energy extracted is called Bioenergy.

This debate has been going on for many years now that can we survive on the renewable form of energy alone. Many people believe that we can by utilizing maximum amount of solar and wind energy while there are people who are persistent that there are not enough renewable alternatives to replace the amount of energy being produced by fossil fuels. The following two statements presents a clear picture showing both sides of the face.

“Every 40 minutes, enough solar energy reaches the Earth’s surface to power the entire planet for a year.”

“There simply isn’t enough renewable energy to replace fossil fuels.”

Scientists back their claim that we can shift to renewable form of energy with some theoretical facts Many reports have also come forward claiming that solar energy alone has the capacity to power the entire Earth. Having said that, it has been the most underrated resource of all for all these years of advancement. United States which is one of the most developed countries of the world, made only 0.0039% of the energy it used through solar power. The statements of visionary people like Elon Musk holds significance in this regard. It is a common perception that to shift the energy system of Earth to solar energy we might need to plant a solar panel to every nook and corner of the world. We have some great news for you as that is NOT true. A report suggested that even if we manage to convert 20% of solar energy into power, we can provide electricity for entire Earth by setting solar panels in an area of the size of Spain by 2030.

Similarly, we have wind and hydro at our disposal that can aid the cause of carbon-free energy. Windy regions can be used to generate handsome amounts of electricity as well. The amount of carbon that is emitted through the combustion of non-renewable resources is an essential component of global warming and climate change. Another factor that we must consider here is that there is a serious threat to all the nations of the world that they might utilize all the energy resources they have. It can lead to a national catastrophe. Hence, we should strive to mold our priorities in a way that are feasible for entire humanity. We know that Renewable Energy can feed the entire planet and its time that we start working towards this goal.
