The expression of emotions of Bonobos resembles with us a lot. Similarly, the reproductive cycle of the female chimps corresponds to that of the humans. Gorillas have 98% similarity while the DNA of Orangutans share 97% properties with humans. An interesting thing is that the brain of both the species works in a similar fashion.


Dogs are regarded as one of the most loyal animals by the humans. They are also considered the best friends of the mankind. The scientific research concludes that there is more than 80% similarity in the DNA of humans and dogs. That’s a massive reason why researchers look towards dogs to find cures for many diseases that are common in both the species. Currently, they are being studied for treating diseases like epilepsy, allergies, and cancers.


If you think that dogs are more close to you than cats in terms of DNA similarity, your information needs to upgrade. Cats share nearly 90% of our genes. This shows why we all love them. Scientists have found enough evidence to suggest that they self-domesticate to make themselves secure and ensure regular supply of food.

The genes of cucumber are pretty much similar to squash, pumpkins, and watermelons. Scientists are hopeful that the sequencing of the cucumber genome will help them to improve the quality of all the related plants. The exact DNA similarity between humans and cucumber is unknown for now but there are some common features.

Other Plants

There are numerous other plants whose DNA match with ours. Lettuce is one such example as it is 16% identical to us genetically. Similarly, potatoes are similar to our genes but the level of similarity is not confirmed yet.
